This program contract will fund a literature review of the Green House model of skilled long-term care and its evidence base, knowledge that will inform the design of a large-scale evaluation to support replication of the model. There are currently 50 Green Houses in operation and more than 130 in development -- a rate of growth that makes a rigorous evaluation increasingly important. The researchers will produce a manuscript suitable for publication in an academic, peer-reviewed journal that explores: (1) the evolution of the Green House model; (2) the elements of the model and the extent to which they are clearly defined and standardized; (3) evidence that links elements of Green House care to intended outcomes of the model; (4) generalizability of evidence across Green House sites; and (5) areas requiring further study. Additional products will include an executive summary; an annotated bibliography that summarizes each article reviewed; and four research briefs targeted to policy, practice, consumer and research audiences.
