Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Lead States in Public Health Quality Improvement program

The Foundation's initiative, Lead States in Public Health Quality Improvement, was designed to create a peer network of innovator states with experience in designing and implementing a process for systematic assessment of local public health agency capacity and performance. This grant provides technical assistance and direction support for the final phase of the Lead States initiative. Managed by the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), in New Orleans, this collaborative of 16 states is preparing local and state health departments for national accreditation, contributing to the development of the national voluntary accreditation program and advancing the application of quality improvement methods that result in specific, measurable improvements. NNPHI deliverables under this grant include: (1) facilitating and managing the collaborative and the community of practice activities; (2) synthesizing the lessons within and across each of the process and health status targets; (3) creating a user friendly online resource that includes all the storyboards, lessons learned, and useful quality improvement tools; (4) disseminating the storyboards, results, and lessons learned via teleconferences, presentations, and other channels; (5) capturing and sharing opportunities to institutionalize quality improvement in public health; and (6) monitoring the efforts of the states in advancing national accreditation. NNPHI will widely disseminate these tools, lessons and resources to non-participating public health departments to encourage the uptake and spread of quality improvement and to build support and demand for national accreditation.
