Maximizing Enrollment: Transforming State Health Coverage

The Foundation's initiative, Maximizing Enrollment for Kids: Making Medicaid and SCHIP Work, was designed to increase health insurance coverage of eligible but uninsured children in Medicaid and SCHIP by helping states improve their policies and procedures and to measure the impact of these changes.Under this project, Alabama will use the resources from this grant to enhance and streamline its process for enrolling and retaining children in Medicaid and SCHIP by streamlining their eligibility system with new technologies to improve efficiencies and to improve their processes for getting eligible children into the system. Currently, Alabama Medicaid and SCHIP programs combined cover more than 370,000 children. The program will help the state make systems, process, and policy changes that will improve coverage for the state's remaining 50,000 eligible but uninsured children.
