Informing family-run child-care providers how to integrate healthy nutrition and physical activity into their programs serving preschool children

The purpose of this project is to provide the staffs of family-run, child-care providers with Healthy Habits for Life, a multimedia resource guide for integrating healthy eating and physical activity into home child-care settings. Many child-care homes are essentially neighborhood baby-sitting services that do not routinely stress the necessity of nor provide children with regular opportunities to eat right and be active. In addition to distributing 11,000 resource guides in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, other deliverables will be to train 1,000 staff members in how to use the guide and to assess the impact of the guide and the training sessions on improving the food and activity environments of family-run child care.
