The Foundation's Nurse Faculty Scholars program was designed to increase the stature and academic standing of nursing faculty and draw more nurses to teaching careers by creating a cadre of national leaders in academic nursing through career development awards to outstanding junior nursing faculty. At the start of the program, the National Program Office (NPO) for this effort utilized the administrative support services of the Constella Group LLC. As of February 2008, the NPO is fully staffed and managing the program. The first cohort of 15 RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars, chosen in May 2008, is an excellent representation of junior faculty in the top tier nursing programs in the country. They will be mentored by a senior nursing faculty at their own school, as well as a national nursing mentor and a research mentor who is not a nurse. In the second year of the program, the NPO will recruit a new cohort of 15 Scholars, conduct two national meetings, administer the program to guide the Scholars in their academic career, and participate in the evaluation.
