Young men's violence-intervention project--a pilot project for transitional employment and case management in Massachusetts
The purpose of this project is to improve the health and well-being of high-risk young men ages 16-24 from crime-intensive communities in Massachusetts by helping them learn skills needed to get and keep a job and curb violent behavior. The grant will support the first year of a three-year pilot program to provide transitional (subsidized) employment and intensive case management for approximately 100 young men who have little or no job experience. The grantee assigns participants to supervised crews doing unskilled work such as cleaning, painting and landscaping. Case managers help them develop critical employment and life skills and connect to needed services, including substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling. The project will also deliver help with job placement and retention and an evaluation of the program's efficacy in reducing youth violence.
