This grant supports the 2009 National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH), the premier convening of the public health and tobacco-control communities in the United States. NCTOH provides the opportunity for advocates and public health practitioners and researchers to share lessons and learn from each other. The key deliverable is the 2009 NCTOH, June 10-12, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference expects 3,500 attendees, representing the spectrum of U.S. tobacco-control practitioners. Foundation support includes sessions on policy advocacy to help participants develop, promote, enact and enforce tobacco-control policies at the local, state and federal levels. The conference will also advocate and defend funding for programs to treat and prevent tobacco abuse. The Foundation is one of several funding organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, American Legacy Foundation, American Cancer Society, and the Arizona Department of Health Services.
