The Foundation's program, Transforming Care at the Bedside, was designed to develop new interventions to improve the hospital work environment with the goal of improving the quality of care provided by nurses at the bedside.This grant will provide scholarships to 44 rural hospitals and minority-serving public hospitals to enable their participation in the Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) Learning and Innovation Community. A Learning and Innovation Community is an Institute for Healthcare Improvement strategy to further TCAB's work to improve nursing care and to spread its principles to diverse hospitals nationwide. Deliverables will include: (1) recruitment of 22 rural and 22 minority-serving public hospitals to join the Learning and Innovation Community by October 1, 2008; (2) scholarships for the 44 hospitals to support the community's membership fees (including participation in community meetings scheduled for October 21-24, 2008, and spring 2009); (3) customized faculty support and technical assistance to engage hospital teams in TCAB; (4) two receptions for the rural and public hospitals at the TCAB community meeting in October 2008; (5) two site visits; and (6) a summary report on project results by October 31, 2009.
