Technical assistance and direction National Demonstration of Early Detection, Intervention and Prevention of Psychosis in Adolescents and Young Adults
The Foundation's program, National Demonstration of Early Detection, Intervention and Prevention of Psychosis in Adolescents and Young Adults, was designed to replicate the Portland Identification and Early Referral (PIER) Program -- an intervention that uses evidence-based psychosocial and pharmacologic interventions in the early identification and treatment of adolescents and young adults with severe mental illness.The Portland Identification and Early Referral Program (PIER) is a ground-breaking clinical and research project based at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, Maine. This grant provides technical assistance and direction support for the program. The focus of the third year of funding for the Early Detection and Intervention for the Prevention of Psychosis Program will shift to maintaining the clinical, research and administrative guidance and support in order to assist grantees in the implementation of the PIER model. Staff will provide ongoing training and supervision to grantees and work with the University of Southern Maine on the development and oversight of evaluation plans, methods and tools in order to evaluate the community outreach component of the program.
