Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program - Yonas E. Geda, M.D., M.Sc.
The Foundation's Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program was designed to provide four-year postdoctoral research awards offered to historically disadvantaged physicians who are committed to developing careers in academic medicine, to improving the health of underserved populations, and to furthering the understanding and elimination of health disparities.Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is the transitional zone between the cognitive changes of normal aging and dementia. The purpose of this project to test the hypothesis that baseline neuropsychiatric symptoms (e.g. depression, apathy) are associated with increased risk of progressing from normal cognitive aging to incident MCI in elderly individuals residing in Olmsted County, Minnesota, and to conduct a pilot study in order to establish a neuropsychiatric research program among African-Americans in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.
