Technical assistance and direction for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing

The Foundation's New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program was designed to address the nursing shortage by funding scholarships in accelerated bachelor's degree programs at nursing schools, with preference given to schools that increase the number of students in these programs or increase enrollment and retention of disadvantaged or minority students.This program will fund scholarships for students seeking accelerated baccalaureate or master's degrees to increase the number of new nurses while also increasing diversity in the nursing profession. The deliverable is $15,000,000 in scholarships for students from underrepresented groups in nursing or disadvantaged backgrounds, which will be comprised of 1,500 scholarships of $10,000 each over three years. This is the first technical assistance and direction grant for the program. The Foundation previously provided a planning grant to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to initiate the development of a new National Program Office and program start-up activities that include: (1) the development and launch of a call for proposals, online application process and website; and (2) the selection of a National Advisory Committee. During the first year of the grant, the National Program Office will administer the review process, coordinate the selection meeting, monitor the sites selected for funding, and plan for the recruitment and application process for the next round of grants.
