The Foundation's program, Aligning Forces for Quality: The Regional Market Project, was designed to support grants and technical assistance to community coalitions to work toward high-quality, patient-centered and equitable care. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is seeking to sustain high quality patient-centered and equitable care in a set of up to 20 targeted regions by 2015. Under this strategic objective, the Foundation has already launched the Aligning Forces for Quality program directed at 14 communities with multi-stakeholder coalitions. George Washington University will assume a leadership role as the Aligning Forces national program office and will manage six major activities: (1) general program support; (2) technical assistance to the coalitions; (3) coordination of national technical assistance modules; (4) incorporation of the legal barriers work into Aligning Forces; (5) information support; and (6) communications. These activities will be designed to foster and spread improvement using strategies to engage the providers, consumers and purchasers composing multi-stakeholder coalitions as well as the broader health care market in each community. The national program office will also assume a primary role in dissemination of critical lessons to the nation at large. This structure requires the ongoing participation of many national experts with diverse content expertise. Impact will be gauged by the project's ability to achieve the Foundation's program objective and goals, as well as progress measured by other indicators.
