Developing national priorities for improving the quality of health care

This project aims to eliminate major barriers to the Foundation's Quality/Equality strategy -- barriers such as the proliferation of standards for health care and technical challenges to measuring whether those standards are met -- by helping national and regional organizations align with national priorities and goals for measuring improvements in health care performance and reporting on them. Under this project, the nonprofit National Quality Forum (NQF) will lead those organizations toward agreement on how to measure progress, how to create action plans and how to communicate with key policy-makers and health care leaders. Deliverables include: (1) an analysis of the current portfolio of measurements; (2) development of further measurement tools; (3) detailed action plans for implementing the national priorities and goals; and (4) a strategy to communicate the need for action on NQF's priorities to health care organizations across the country.
