This grant provides partial support for the 2008 Taking the Longview Conference and Annual Meeting of the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers. The forum comprises 25 state centers, many of which originated with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Colleagues in Caring program. The centers provide strategic leadership in addressing nursing-workforce issues. The conference, hosted by the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, will focus on nursing retention, especially of new graduates, front-line managers and experienced nurses. These topics align with RWJF's Human Capital programs, such as Wisdom at Work, which evaluates strategies to retain experienced nurses and explores the career paths of newly licensed nurses. Also, the Foundation's newly formed Center to Champion Nursing in America will work with the nursing centers to promote solutions to the nursing shortage.About 250 people--nursing leaders, policy makers, representatives of foundations and human resource professionals--will attend the conference, June 11-12, in Denver.
