Shortages are predicted for almost every health profession including frontline and allied health roles. Although the Foundation has recently invested in programs to create development and advancement systems for frontline workers and to encourage college students to go into medicine and dentistry, little investment has been made in strengthening the high school pipeline and encouraging students to explore frontline positions. This grant will support a national summit of 100 participants to engage in a dialogue among funders, educators, workforce development experts, and employers on the issue of future health workforce development needs and an educational system to appropriately prepare youth for careers in the health care sector. Deliverables include the publication of proceedings and the development of a Web site for disseminating and following up on conference themes/ideas. RWJF is supporting approximately 20 percent of the overall conference budget; other funders include the grantee organization, the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board, and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.
