The Foundation's program, Jobs to Careers: Promoting Work-Based Learning for Quality Care, was designed to establish systems that train, develop, reward and advance current frontline health and health care workers to improve the quality of care and ensure the quality of services provided to patients and communities. This project will develop a work-based learning program to train frontline workers in environmental, laundry and dietary services for entry-level clinical positions as Monitor Technicians, Health Care Assistants and Unit Clerks. Partners include two local technical centers (Ohio's vocational-technical school system), Youngstown State University, the local WIB and a local healthcare intermediary. WBL curricula and methods will be developed by faculty of the technical centers and the learning process will be facilitated by a learning coach. Classroom training is also included but will be minimized in favor of WBL methods when possible. Thirty-five total workers will be trained and attain nationally recognized certificates. It is also expected that YSU will grant academic credit once the curricula is developed.
