The Foundation's program, Active Living Resource Center, was designed to improve health by encouraging collaboration among planning, health, and non-traditional entities for the purpose of designing activity-friendly communities. This grant provides support for activities planned for the seventh year of this project. Specifically, the Active Living Resource Center (ALRC) will focus on developing, testing and disseminating materials and a series of potential approaches that could help to support the creation of more active communities nationwide. ALRC will complete a series of PDA/GIS data collection modules begun in 2006 and will conduct workshops to test and refine tools and training guides. Among its most important efforts in 2008, ALRC will continue to build on its current efforts to promote City Safe Routes to School. ALRC aims to increase the number of individuals able and willing to organize and sustain SRTS programs by finding local and regional advocacy organizations to lead programs. Particularly promising efforts are located in Atlanta, Chicago and Brooklyn. This grant also will allow ALRC to continue to focus energy and resources on development and maintenance of the Active Living Resource Center Web site (www.activelivingresources.org) as a primary vehicle for dissemination of information and tools.
