Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Substance Abuse Policy Research Program

The Foundation's Substance Abuse Policy Research Program was designed to provide support for investigators to conduct policy research on a variety of subjects directed at helping the country reduce the harm caused by substance abuse. This grant provides continued technical assistance and direction support for the Substance Abuse Policy Research (SAPRP) program. SAPRP will continue to make grants of under $100,000 for studies relating to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs and larger grants of up to $400,000 for studies relating to alcohol and drugs. In addition, SAPRP will continue to fund Diversity Partnership Grants and enhance the dissemination of its findings through Knowledge Assets. The primary focus of SAPRP grants will be to reduce the harmful effects of substance use disorders and addictions by improving the quality of care for those who need treatment. As a guiding principle, at least two-thirds of SAPRP grant making will focus on projects that address this focus. The remaining one-third will support cutting-edge policy research that might fall outside this area, but still complement the Foundation's work or mission. These funds will support the National Program Office (NPO) in its efforts to plan, organize and direct the program. Funds will also support the NPO's efforts in promoting sustainability of the program, which will involve expert convenings of Foundation senior staff and thought-leaders in substance abuse policy research.
