The Foundation's current grant, advancing, disseminating and institutionalizing childhood obesity environmental and policy interventions, established baseline information from nationally representative surveys of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) members about perceptions of childhood obesity, screening using Body Mass Index (BMI) percentile and the relationship of clinicians to community initiatives and resources for families. This supplementary support will help advance, disseminate and institutionalize childhood obesity environmental and policy interventions by building capacity and support for these goals among AAP and AAFP clinical leaders. The principal aim is to strengthen AAP leadership and staff commitment to and inclusion of policy environmental strategies and elimination of ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in strategic activities addressing childhood obesity. A secondary aim is to initiate discussion of needs assessment data and childhood obesity priorities with AAFP leadership.
