Research on the organization, financing, performance and impact of public health departments can help identify the optimal structures, practices and resources for public health agencies to deliver highly effective public health services to communities. This initiative will help build the applied research framework necessary for evidence-based transformation of the public health practice system and give practitioners and policy-makers access to the evidence they need to guide decisions about how to best provide public health services that protect the health of people in their communities. By building the data infrastructure, analytic capacity, and creating a data resource and technical assistance center this project will facilitate the translation practice-based research into real world solutions. This project will stimulate demand for Public Health Services Research by decision-makers by showing which types of financing, infrastructure and organization are associated with measurable improvements in health outcomes or cost savings
