The Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting diversity in health and health care providers and leadership. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has produced materials on the diversity of the medical profession since 1983, with ongoing support from the Foundation. This grant supports the analysis, writing and production of two AAMC publications: Minority Students in Medical Education: Facts and Figures and Diversity in Physician Workforce: Facts and Figures. Support is included for two rounds of each report, with the former being produced in 2008 and 2012 and the latter in 2010 and 2014. The Physician Workforce report was not funded in the past; it has been added to this project to provide a more comprehensive picture of the current workforce. The Foundation's Human Capital Portfolio team uses this medical school data, along with information from dental, osteopathic and nursing schools, as a field indicator for its strategic objectives. AAMC will provide a yearly update on students in medical schools for this indicator. This project will be considered successful if the reports are completed on time and disseminated widely.
