Integrating walking for transportation and physical activity for sedentary female office workers in Texas

The Foundation's Active Living Research program was designed to support investigator-initiated research to identify and assess structural, environmental, and policy changes with the potential to increase population levels of physical activity. This study will assess daily walking behavior of office workers in urban and suburban settings in Texas. Different land use patterns, type of employment, length of employment at the institution and demographic influences will be compared to provide a better picture of the physical activity of office workers. The impact of electronic information about short walking trips and physical activity on increasing walking will be tested. The investigator will also explore collecting travel information electronically as a means to improve recall and accuracy of data on walking trips for office workers.
