Endowment for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy

The Foundation's Health Policy Partnership in Diversity initiative was designed to increase the diversity of those with formal training in the fields of economics, political science and sociology who engage in health services and health policy research.The RWJF Center for Health Policy will seek to become a nationally recognized locus for health policy research. Funds for the project will be awarded to the UNM Foundation, which will manage the endowment and allocate funds to the University. The $8-million endowment for the Center will support future activities of the Center. The endowment will be administered by the executive director of the Center, who will serve as one of three tenured faculty members within the Center and supported by the endowment. The three tenured faculty members will be appointed in the three social science departments within the University of New Mexico College of Arts & Sciences in the departments of economics, political science and sociology. Seven-eighths of the annual income from the endowment will support faculty salaries, as well as related program expenses for the three social science faculty members identified above and one-eighth of the annual income will support Center-related programs within the UNM Institute for Public Health. The endowment will be supplemented by $1 million to be raised by the UNM Foundation.
