Strategic communications and dissemination activities for RWJF's Reclaiming Futures program

The Foundation's program, Reclaiming Futures: Communities Helping Teens Overcome Drugs, Alcohol, and Crime, was designed to: (1) develop new service delivery models that integrate comprehensive services into the juvenile justice system and promote the creation of community-based systems of care for substance-abusing youthful offenders; and (2) foster the development of local judicial leadership to guide juvenile justice and substance abuse treatment partnerships, and assist community-based treatment providers in assessing their effectiveness.Through its influential national voice, Reclaiming Futures seeks to change attitudes and build public support to help teens caught in the cycle of drugs, alcohol and crime. This grant supports the final communications activities for Reclaiming Futures which include: (1) continuing to raise awareness about the successes of Reclaiming Futures communities, the value of the Reclaiming Futures model and its impact on youth and the justice system, through a national media campaign, completion of key publications, Web site tools and documentaries; (2) connecting with state officials on spreading the Reclaiming Futures model through a state-level Project Connect activity and a judicial training pilot; (3) a model legislation project to include meeting of key experts and dissemination of the product; and (4) preparing for sustainability by developing a long-term strategy.
