Personal health record (PHR) products and services are rapidly proliferating, but to date there is little research on the health information management needs of diverse groups of patients. In this collaborative project, a team of researchers will conduct a series of focus groups with patients and consumers to understand the information and services they need to manage actively their own health. This project is highly complementary -- and was adapted specifically to support -- the Foundation's new Project HealthDesign program. The project will be considered successful if it yields valuable insights about people's health information needs and thereby informs Project HealthDesign activities and related efforts. Project deliverables include an interim report of the focus group analysis, a final report, and a manuscript for journal publication.
