Technical assistance and direction for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program and Physician Faculty Scholars program
The Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program was designed to augment clinical training by providing new skills and perspectives necessary to achieving leadership positions both within and outside the walls of academia in the 21st century. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Physician Faculty Scholars Program was designed to strengthen the leadership and academic productivity of junior medical school faculty who are dedicated to improving health and health care. This grant provides funds for the provision of technical assistance and direction for both of these programs. The programs' National Program Office (NPO) at Stanford is responsible for providing technical assistance and direction for the programs, assisting participating institutions in the recruitment of scholar candidates, and providing administrative support to the national advisory committee (NAC) in selecting scholars for appointment and monitoring their progress. The NPO plans the programs' national meetings, conducts annual surveys of current and former scholars in order to update the programs' roster and Web site, and conducts annual site visits with NAC members to each training program site. In addition to supporting the Physician Faculty Scholars Program, two new components were added to the curriculum beginning with the 2005 cohort of scholars. The first is a centralized curriculum on leadership to complement each individual site's leadership training. The second is a new emphasis on community-based research. Each program will provide training as well as experiences in conducting research in community settings.
