Establishing a national users group of state health policy institutes and centers
The Foundation's State Forums Partnership Program was designed to establish a technical assistance center to support the adoption of the New Jersey Policy Forums on Health and Medical Care project in up to eight states.State health policy makers, including legislative and executive branch agencies, have significant health and health care policy responsibilities but often lack resources and access to information that would improve their decision making. This grant supports planning for a new national users' group of state health policy institutes and research organizations to share research and other relevant and timely information that will support health and health policy decision making. This collaborative project was developed by grantees and other participants in the State Forums Partnership Program (SFPP), a national program office that began in 1999 and will close in 2006. SFPP supported a series of state forums which convened state officials and other stakeholders to discuss a range of health and health policy issues. In preparation for the forums, SFPP grantees shared information resources that contributed to broader understanding of policy issues and developed background issue briefs; the continuation of these activities will form the basis for the national users' group.Deliverables will include a strategic plan for the national users' group, which will include the fielding and results of a user survey, proposed membership and governance structures; and the network sustainability framework, including development and submission of funding proposals to other funders.
