State Solutions: An Initiative to Improve Enrollment in Medicare Savings Programs
The Foundation's initiative, State Solutions: An Initiative to Improve Enrollment in Medicare Savings Programs, was designed to maximize enrollment in Medicaid, Qualified Medicare Beneficiary, Selected Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary, and Qualified Individual programs.In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the State of Louisiana has had to stop its outreach efforts to enroll the elderly in the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (the very successful state Medicaid agency). This grant will enable the State to renew outreach to the elderly. Louisiana has simplified its administrative processes for enrollment and renewal in MSP, and outreach efforts increased the enrollment in MSP by over 40 percent.
