The United States is now experiencing a shortage of registered nurses that is projected to go to over 800,000 by the year 2020. This project addresses these issues by informing policy makers at all levels, clinical and academic leaders, and healthcare institutions of policy-related problems and solutions to the nursing shortage. Under this contract, Spann Communications will research, develop, print, and disseminate eight, eight-page briefs which will be sent to local, state, and national policy makers, associations of professionals and academics in the health field, and nurse educators. As these leaders play large roles in shaping the nursing field and ensuring adequate workforce development, their understanding of the scope of the nursing shortage and potential policy solutions to those problems is essential to improving the work environment for nurses and mitigating the nursing shortage.
