For the past 12 years, the Health Forum (now part of the Health Research and Educational Trust) has offered a leadership training program for individuals involved in improving community health. The Creating Healthier Communities (CHC) Fellowship Program is a 15-month intensive educational and action learning curriculum that has trained more than 500 individuals. Despite continued need for leadership in community health, the Program's enrollment has declined. This grant supports a multicomponent assessment and redesign of the CHC Fellowship Program so that it might better address the leadership needs of the current environment in communities. Assessment will include literature review, focus groups, and in-depth interviews coordinated by a redesign working group. From this research, recommendations for redesign will be made with the expectation that a redesigned program could accept applications in fall 2005. Success for this project will be the design of a program more responsive to the needs of communities.
