Evaluation of RWJF's Expecting Success program

The Foundation's initiative, Expecting Success: Excellence in Cardiac Care, was designed as an effort to undertake a hospital quality improvement collaborative to improve cardiac care for African-Americans and Latinos.This grant supports up to 10 hospitals that will participate in a collaborative effort to improve the quality of inpatient care for African-American and Latino patients with coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. Through a less-prescribed set of demonstration projects, the grantees will also address the broader continuum of cardiovascular care outside the walls of the hospital. The Center for Health and Public Service Research of the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University (NYU) will evaluate this new initiative. The NYU team was selected for this project through a competitive bid process. Using a mixed-methods approach, the NYU team will analyze a set of research questions to address the Foundation's goals in conducting the evaluation. The NYU team will produce a set of interim and final products to engage the sites and National Program Office and to inform a wider audience of program lessons. This project will be considered successful if it produces timely, relevant information for the program and the broader field interested in quality improvement techniques and disparity reduction.
