In April 2004, the Foundation convened a group of experts on the frontline workforce that concentrated on exploring the state of the frontline workforce in health and health care. The discussion resulted in a series of options for further study/action. One such recommendation was a perceived need to conduct focus groups of frontline workers that would describe their employment experiences. This project builds on that recommendation and compliments quantitative work by Health Workforce Solutions, Inc., to capture and understand the experience of a wide range of frontline health and health care workers in diverse settings. This grant supports the convening of four focus groups, comprised of 75 frontline workers. The project will be considered successful if it accurately illustrates the quantitative oriented definitions of frontline workers in a qualitative manner and assists the Foundation in identifying potential investment opportunities.
