The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy uses a variety of media strategies including message placement in popular media, education, and advocacy at the national, state, and community levels to reinforce the consequences of teen pregnancy and reduce early parenting. The Campaign is focused on changing norms and values about the importance of delayed childbearing. The Campaign works with media to promote responsible storylines, researchers to promote evidence for best practices, state and local coalitions to strengthen their efforts, and the faith community to build on leadership among their congregants. In 2005, the Campaign will reach its ten-year anniversary and the last year of its original goal--to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy by one-third between 1996 and 2005. Demographic projections suggest that the nation will meet and exceed this goal. The Foundation was one of the original funders for the Campaign and has been its largest contributor over these past ten years. This grant will provide continued support to enable the Campaign to complete its work on this phase of its goal and to set new goals for the future, including how to achieve sustainability. The grant will be considered successful if the Campaign examines its core competencies and develops a business plan for sustaining those core elements.
