Developing standardized technical specifications for nursing-sensitive quality of care performance measures

In January 2004, the National Quality Forum identified and endorsed a set of 15 nurse-sensitive performance measures. The implementation of the measures is limited by the lack of standardized specification for their use. The purpose of this project is to develop and test standardized technical specifications for the nursing measures. Project staff will establish a technical expert panel, develop technical specifications, pilot test the specifications, and develop education and training materials to assist in measure implementation. The measures will be added to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' current core measure set. The project will be considered successful if it increases the use of nurse-sensitive measures.
