The Foundation's Local Initiative Funding Partners Program is a matching grants program designed to establish partnerships between the Foundation and local grantmakers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for underserved and vulnerable populations. The purpose of this project is for the popular MicheLee Puppets to build on experience from their engaging children's shows focused on raising awareness about violence, disabilities, teen pregnancy, and other critical issues. Now seeing themselves as more than an arts organization, MicheLee Puppets will develop an educational performance addressing obesity. The new script will be based on concrete information about obesity and healthy lifestyle choices and targeted to the specific learning styles of grades 3 through 5. It will be packaged as part of a more complete curriculum with materials for teachers and parents and a strong evaluation component to gauge its effectiveness in prompting behavior change. The funding partners are: Darden Restaurants Foundation; Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation; Community Foundation of Central Florida; Sun Trust Bank; Florida Hospital; Winter Park Health Foundation; Martin-Gracia Andersen Foundation; and The Chatlos Foundation.
