The Foundation's program, Injury Free Coalition for Kids: Dissemination of a Model Injury Prevention Program for Children and Adolescents, was designed to reduce and prevent injuries to children through a hospital-based, research-driven model, implemented in partnership with coalitions of community stakeholders.This grant provides support for programs currently under way to decrease injury of children in the city of Milwaukee. These programs include: development of a survey tool to be used by public health nurses and fire and police personnel to access home safety for fall prevention; targeted education efforts with the Poison Control Center; development of eight permanent car seat fitting stations; and activities to increase pedestrian safety through creation of safe playgrounds; promotion of bicycle helmet usage; alterations in traffic signage and patterns; and targeted law enforcement activities.
