Right to Health Care Organizing Project
The Foundation's initiative, Policy Advocacy on Tobacco and Health: An Initiative to Build Capacity in Communities of Color for Tobacco Policy Change, was designed to provide resources for community-based organizations and tribal groups interested in implementing effective tobacco prevention and cessation policy initiatives.The purpose of this project is to educate the community on the importance of increasing tobacco excise taxes in order to lower tobacco consumption and fund the expansion of health care services to the poor. Specific objectives include building a strong component of Padres Unidos to participate in and win ongoing health care rights for Latinos in Denver and Colorado, participating in developing a broad coalition that can effectively educate Colorado on the importance of tobacco excise taxes, representing and advocating for health care rights for immigrants and communities of color, and developing vehicles and structures that promote the full participation of the poor, people of color, and immigrants in mainstream tobacco control policy advocacy.
