Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs

The Foundation's initiative, Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs, was designed to strengthen the addiction treatment system's ability to successfully use process improvement techniques toward increasing patients' access to and retention in addiction treatment programs. The purpose of this project is to focus initial process improvement efforts in its residential treatment program in Seattle, and specifically in the area of intake and early engagement. The grantee will thoroughly examine a new resident's first day and the subsequent days' experience in the program to build an improved environment that encourages and empowers women to successfully complete the recommended treatment program. As a result of participation in the Learning Collaborative, the grantee expects to accomplish this work quickly, spread process improvement techniques to other areas of the treatment program, and revise policies and procedures based on what is learned from its own improvements and from partner grantees.
