Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs

The Foundation's initiative, Paths to Recovery: Changing the Process of Care for Substance Abuse Programs, was designed to strengthen the addiction treatment system's ability to successfully use process improvement techniques toward increasing patients' access to and retention in addiction treatment programs. The purpose of this project is to increase the percentage of: (1) prospective clients who return to the Center for residential or intensive outpatient treatment following initial assessment; (2) residential clients who complete a course of treatment through aftercare; and (3) outpatient clients who complete the intensive outpatient treatment program. This grant will assist in laying the groundwork for a continuous program of quality improvement, beginning with access and retention processes. By training Center employees in the areas of data collection, analysis techniques, and more-efficient use of existing resources, together with the application of process improvements developed by participants in the Paths to Recovery program, the Center expects to make changes to its policies and procedures that will enable it to better meet the needs of its clients and the community.
