The Foundation's initiative, Rewarding Results: Aligning Incentives with High-Quality Health Care, was designed to invent, prove, and diffuse innovations in systems of provider payments and nonfinancial incentives that will encourage and reward high-quality care. The purpose of this project is to substantially increase understanding of and demand for health care quality improvement by purchasers of care. The goals of the program are to: educate purchasers of care on the real and immediate consequences of poor quality on them, their organizations, and constituencies; promote the visibility, further development, and use of results-driven strategies and tools to drive quality improvement; and motivate more purchasers of care to join the quality improvement efforts of their peers. The major project deliverables are: a nonfiction book for business and government leaders; 24 articles, op-eds, and radio commentaries (4 each month); and QualityClock.com, a Web site that will aggregate and convey information on the costs of poor quality health care in terms of lives lost, injuries, and economic costs. Kevin B. Piper, formerly the Director of the National Health Care Purchasing Institute and the Rewarding Results program, provides all of the staffing for the project. .
