The Foundation's Urgent Matters program was designed to improve the availability and timeliness of care in hospital emergency departments and the use of these departments as a window into the safety net to raise public understanding of the interaction between safety net functions and workings of the health care delivery system as a whole. This grant provides technical assistance support for 10 Urgent Matters (UM) grantees who have been chosen to receive up to $100,000 worth of customized technical assistance supervised by the UM National Program Office. At each site, a limited number of emergency department throughput and/or output issues will be addressed by consultants who are expert in operational assessment and process improvement. The goals include reductions in wait times and delays, and improvements in patient satisfaction. Each selected site will also receive a $25,000 grant to fund staff time and travel used to support site activities.
