Housing and neighborhood environments significantly influence health. Multiple studies have shown that these influences are largely negative for people residing in low-income housing projects. The purpose of this project is to assess the effects on health of the current federal housing policy, HOPE VI, which is intended to improve residents' environments by transforming low-income public housing. This project will be considered successful if it informs future federal housing policy decisions regarding public housing with regards to previously unconsidered effects on health. Project deliverables include major policy reports, policy briefs on key areas--including mental and physical health--and articles in peer-reviewed academic journals.
