Participating hospital agreement incentive program
The Foundation's initiative, Rewarding Results: Aligning Incentives with High-Quality Health Care, was designed to invent, prove, and diffuse innovations in systems of provider payments and non-financial incentives that will encourage and reward high-quality care.Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will, under support from this grant, do the following: (1) support implementation of a redesigned hospital incentive program that rewards hospitals for improving quality; (2) test design modifications, such as shared decision making, aligning physician and hospital incentives, and adapting the model to allow for structure and service line differences across hospitals; (3) facilitate and expedite hospital performance improvement through a subcontract with the Michigan Health & Hospital Association; and (4) evaluate the costs and effectiveness of the new system through a subcontract with the University of Michigan. The program is large in scope impacting approximately 4 million traditional and PPO members receiving services at over 90 acute care hospitals in Michigan.
