This grant supports the development of a comprehensive clearinghouse of palliative care information and Web-based programs to raise public awareness about palliative care for people with cancer, cancer survivors, and their families. Funds are used to develop an interactive section of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship's (NCCS) Web site on patient-centered information on palliative care. The palliative care section of the NCCS Web site includes: (1) interactive Web pages with information on palliative care organized by topics such as pain management, psychosocial and emotional needs, communication, and shared decision making about treatment; (2) a special section of NCCS' resource guide, Can Search, that include a searchable listing of palliative care resources; (3) an online peer support network that includes a message board for survivors and caregivers to share stories and communicate with others; (4) tools to empower patients and families who request this type of care; and (5) quarterly 60-minute Web chats featuring guest experts. To ensure that the information on the Web site is accurate, reliable and of high quality, an advisory committee reviews Web site content.
