The Foundation's Local Initiative Funding Partners Program is a matching grants program designed to establish partnerships between the RWJF and local grant makers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for underserved and vulnerable populations.A new team of trauma responders--available 24 hours, seven days a week--will offer immediate intervention for children who witness violence in their homes. It is significant that this project developed as a request for help from police responding to violence calls, that the Chief of Police has mandated referrals by police to this new service, and they have already begun training them to do so. The Children Who Witness Violence program replicates a promising project in Cleveland and will use the same evaluator. With this opportunity for further improvements, the model may next be ready for wider dissemination.
