Advancing the quality of health care for children and adolescents

The Foundation's program, Pursuing Perfection: Raising the Bar for Health Care Performance, was designed to help hospital and physician organizations dramatically improve patient outcomes by pursuing perfection in all of their major care processes. The purpose of this project is to design and implement a health care delivery system that is efficient, effective, and safe, as well as being optimally family-centered and evidence-based. The focus will be on two primary populations: children with underlying chronic conditions and healthy children with acute illnesses. The result of these initiatives will impact the care of over 2,000 patients with chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It also will result in markedly improved adherence to condition-specific quality indicators; reduction in errors and cost of care; and enhanced patient satisfaction for approximately 18,000 patients with acute illnesses. The goal is to have 100 percent of the care delivered to children be evidence-based, quality driven, error free, and efficient.
