Producing a supplement to the Journal of Adolescent Health on adolescent risk and vulnerability

The safety, security, and protection of adolescents in the U.S. are of increasing concern, yet our nation lacks an agreed-upon set of constructs and indicators for these dimensions of adolescent development. To facilitate healthy adolescent development and well-being, research into the complexities of coexisting risk and protective factors in particular settings, as well as variations in the ways adolescent perceive their own vulnerability, is needed. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) commissioned original research on resiliency and vulnerability in today's adolescents for an NAS workshop. Published together, the papers in Adolescent Risk and Vulnerability: Concepts and Measurement are unique and ground-breaking, and establish new directions and possible methods for collecting data on adolescent health. This grant supports the production of a supplemental issue of the "Journal of Adolescent Health" which will reprint these papers, reaching a broader practitioner and research audience.
