Managing Pediatric Asthma: Emergency Department Demonstration Program

The Foundation's Managing Pediatric Asthma: Emergency Department Demonstration Program was designed to reduce emergency department visits, increase reliance on primary care providers, improve adherence to clinical protocols, and improve patient knowledge of and compliance with therapeutic regimens for children up to age 18 who are at risk for severe asthma and poor asthma care. The Managing Pediatric Asthma program:is an initiative to reduce emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and costs caused by poorly managed asthma, and to increase health-related quality of life among children. To achieve these goals and address current gaps in asthma management, four separate but related programs, each directed by its own investigator, will work conjointly and through existing Foundation national programs to achieve the overall objectives of the undertaking. One of these programs is a demonstration program for pediatric asthma management in emergency departments serving vulnerable populations with funding authorized for up to four sites.
