Improving quality performance in home health care
Despite the rapid growth of home health care, its central importance to a consumer-centered, long-term care system, and concern about the impact of changing financial incentives on service provision, little is known about the quality of care provided by the home health care sector. The purpose of this project is to: (1) commission a series of synthesis papers that assess the current knowledge base available for supporting home health care quality improvement; (2) convene national experts and opinion leaders with an interest and stake in home health care improvement; and (3) develop an evidence-based practice consortium to assess the viability of a model involving home health care providers and researchers in collaborative performance improvement activities. Project deliverables will include: four synthesis papers and associated research/practice briefs; documents describing the key elements of the consortium, its work, and steps necessary for replication; a qualitative case study of the start-up and early stages of the consortium; and an assessment of the evaluability of the consortium.
