The Foundation's Local Initiative Funding Partners Program, a matching grants program, was designed to establish partnerships between the RWJF and local grant makers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for underserved and vulnerable populations. The purpose of this project, Strengthening New Mexico Families, is to place specialized nurses in eight multidisciplinary family service programs in predominantly Latino and Native American rural communities. These nurses will provide needed services such as child immunizations and referrals for tobacco and alcohol addiction treatment. They will also act as health advocates and educators, training staff of each agency on issues of community health, pediatrics, and harm reduction. The funding partners include McCune Charitable Foundation and the Daniels Fund.
